The rubric focuses on content, organization, and application, and can be graded using four levels. Double-sided Journal Entry Assessment: A provided rubric to assess students’ journal entries. Double-sided Journal Entry: blank copy to add your own excerpts or to have students select their own. The anchor chart provides students with sentence starters. Double-sided Journal Entry Anchor Chart: Throughout the novel students will be working on double-sided journal entries as a way to respond to important excerpts from the text. Word Work Graphic Organizers: These are blank graphic organizers that can be used for any vocabulary words throughout the novel.

The first set of activities may be used throughout the whole novel, or used where needed. The following shows what is included in this package. The novel and my package focuses on themes such as character development, family, the relationships between humans and animals, and friendship. This novel, The One and Only Bob, follows the adventures of Bob as he sets out on a dangerous journey to find his long-lost sister, and to rescue his friends Ivan and Ruby during a dangerous hurricane. I do however include activities that ask students to make connections, think critically, compare and contrast, imagine… and start discussions. For this reason, you will not find chapter by chapter questions and answers that can at times make reading seem like a chore. I aim to provoke thoughtful and meaningful discussion to enhance the wonderful stories that we are reading. But first a word… My first and foremost objective as an educator, when reading a class read aloud, or sharing novels for group study is to encourage a love of reading.
